I support this project as it supports the community, businesses, infrastructure, and surrounding NSW areas. This project will help via taxes and royalties to fund vital services inclusive of healthcare & education services.

It provides a lot of jobs for the area, keep people employed and is a great industry to work in. It is does not have any significant impact on the environment as its a low gas emission pit with good thermal coal.

I support Mod 8 – Ulan West Continued Operations. The proposal responsibly extends an existing operation that provides important local jobs and economic stability. Ulan West has shown strong commitment to safety, environmental management, and community engagement, and continuing operations will help maintain these benefits. Overall, this modification makes practical use of current infrastructure and supports positive outcomes for the region.

I support this project for the continued prosperity of the Mudgee and wider mid-western region. The continued operation is essential to support the community. It will continue to provide jobs and bring people to the region.

This extension is not a ramp up of production, but an extension to current operations. This needs to go ahead to provide security of employment for over 700 workers and the families and businesses that rely on them.

I fully support the continued operations of Ulan West complex. It will bring continued support to businesses and suppliers and pay taxes, royalties and other payments which can fund infrastructure and community services. Also, in addition the ongoing employment to the workforce and future employees. There are opportunities to keep funding local schools, sporting and non-profit organisations. There are so many beneficial outcomes to the continued operations at Ulan.

Dallas Mining Services is a boutique mine ventilation consultancy company which provides ventilation and gas management services and has been working for Ulan Coal Mines in the Mudgee district for over twenty-five years. During this time I have observed that Xstrata, now Glencore, has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to operate to the highest underground mine standards which, in my opinion, are best in NSW, if not Australia.

Ulan Coal mine place a paramount emphasis on safety, always ensuring that all operations prioritise the wellbeing of its workforce. Ulan's implementation of stringent safety protocols has resulted in a culture of vigilance and responsibility among miners, who are all expected to "mine responsibly".

Ulan operates with a focus on minimising environmental impact. They are committed to reduce the ecological footprint of mining activities, ensuring the preservation of surrounding natural resources. The area in which Ulan mine, has a very low in-situ methane content meaning that virtually no methane is emitted to the atmosphere. Thus Ulan is one of the cleanest mines, in respect to emissions and environmental impact and given Ulan's outstanding production, safety and performance to date over a very long time it would seem illogical to even consider not extending their mining footprint.

Ulan Coal mine actively promotes local employment, which provides career opportunities to members of the community and contributes substantially to the local economy. When I visit Mudgee my partner accompanies me, where she supports local shops, hospitality accommodation. Ulan has a steadfast commitment in supporting local projects and initiatives that benefit the Mudgee community

Summarily, Dallas Mining Services fully endorses Ulan Coal Mine for its outstanding commitment to safety, community engagement, environmental responsibility and local development. We believe their dedication to best practices makes them a leader in the mining industry and well deserved of continuing to mine coal at Ulan West well into the future in line with their proposed plans.

I am writing on behalf of Complete Weld Australia to express our support for the continuation of the Ulan Coal Complex. As a local business that benefits directly from the operation of the Complex, we recognise the important role it plays in sustaining economic activity and employment in our region.
Ulan Coal Complex spends around $470 million each year with more than 920 suppliers, many of them local. This continued investment is critical for businesses like ours, helping to maintain jobs, support growth and create long-term stability. In 2024, the operation also delivered more than $846 million in direct socio-economic value, demonstrating its ongoing importance to the regional economy.
It is also important to note that this proposal does not involve a new mine or any increase in production. Operations will continue at the existing scale, with no change to the intensity of mining activities.
Beyond the economic contribution, the Ulan Coal Complex provides valuable support to community organisations and local initiatives, including the Mudgee 4 Doctors program, the Country Universities Centre in Mudgee and the Mudgee High School LINK Program. These investments benefit the wider community and strengthen regional services.

For these reasons, Complete Weld Australia supports the approval of the Ulan Coal Complex continuation and the stability it provides to local businesses, workers and the broader community.

This project high value to the local community, it creates important jobs and revenue for NSW

Approval of this minor modification makes complete sense and should be done without delay.
This modification is a logical way to allow Ulan Coal Mines to maximise extraction of the resources owned by the taxpayers of NSW in a responsible manner.
If resources like those at Ulan, and more broadly in NSW are not maximised where it is sensible to do so, they will be mined in other countries. Those alternatives (eg Indonesia) are often inferior quality, resulting in higher emissions (eg carbon, sulphur etc) and a worse outcome globally.
Economically, the benefits that coal royalties, land taxes, income taxes, local council rates (from mining), salary and wages expenditure, and general business expenditure creates, will be lost to the people of the Mid Western Region, the people of NSW and the economy (more broadly) for no good reason and in the absence of a better economic alternative.

Ulan operations provide security to the 730 employees that work at the complex and the 920 suppliers that support the operation. Ulan complex has been critical in supporting the local community and contributing to the countries GDP.

I support this for what is does for the business and the local community with employment .
